It works.
It works, which is all that matters really. My only gripe is the cables for these things are always way too short for use on a desktop PC. I had to buy a longer cable to go with this. It's not a bad little external DVD drive, windows 11 detected itimmediately, so it was no hassle to get working.

Excellent device - shame about the instructions (edited)
I bought this DVD re-writer to replace another device I could not get to work on my PC. it came nicely packaged, with a CD - which I thought was the driver disk. it just works, and is a great device. I have a few minor negative points - see below for more info. there are very few instructions for this device, so I thought this was be on the CD with the drivers. this is wrong! What you actually get are a few Cyberlink products (including DVD player, CD Label Printer, Media Viewer and players etc). you also receive a "driver watcher" of some description. Now on to a couple of things to explain my rating: 1: the CD does not seem to contain an actual CD driver of any description. So despite running the latest version of windows 10, my computer thinks the Windows default driver from 2006 is the best available. 2: there is a piece of software which gets installed which is some type of "device driver watcher" and the idea is, as much as I can tell, if there is a more current driver version available you would have the choice of downloading and installing. My comment on this is: if the computer is happy with a 15 year old driver and the thing works, I'm not sure 2021 is going to provide anything more current or useful... 3: As mentioned there is very little in the way of the instructions. during the install you get asked what you want to place on your computer, with no real idea of what the software actually is. Although not necessarily "Bloatware" - for me the DVD software is useful and very much a welcome addition, a lot of the other stuff I can't see a use for, although the backup software will be handy - I just need some blank DVDs to put stuff on to. 4: the box suggests you can plug the drive into a TV Directly. I did this onto my LG TV via the USB port. the drive powers up etc, however the TV does not see the device. I tried this with a DVD and audio CD. it's a shame because this would have been a bonus for me and happy for holidays when travelling away etc. 5: Noise. although the device is relatively quiet for the most part, it does get up some speed and can be quite noisy on occasion. In Summary: if you need a CD/DVD Rewriter then this is a great one to use, and certainly worth the extra few pounds over a "non-brand" device. If you need some media and backup software in a hurry (especially DVD player software), again this could be the device for you. I already have a lot of Cyberlink (and other media) stuff so some of this software is not likely to be used. it worked straight away. it comes in three colours (I went for white, black and grey were the other two available) there are no real instructions on what you are installing or why you need to. you could get away with not adding anything additional after plugging the drive in, if you have media players, good backup software etc. EDIT: removed comment about type of DVD-R and CD-R types you can use; it's quite clear in the description you can use all types (eg DVD +R and DVD -R). Also added reference to noise levels.

Great little product
I purchased this DVD writer on the advice of a film graduate to future proof the old dvd's I made with my camcorder. It is slim, lightweight and portable. It comes with an information DVD, which I haven't even looked at because it has been so easy to use! I have a macbook pro and already have a USB converter so installation was very easy. When loading my home dvd's the dvd driver takes a while, its is very noisy but I think this is more to do with the old dvd's rather than the product. It is a little slow with the pictures and the sound comes through first. If transfer the files straight to my external hard drive I am able to watch them perfectly from there. It plays the minidiscs direct from my camcorder, but I haven't worked out if I am able to transfer the files straight to external hard drive, or if I'll have to burn onto a dvd first. When playing a dvd of a film (not camcorder dvd) the noise is not a problem, the picture and sound are in sync. It skips forward/backwards well and pauses fine. The region is set to region 2 and this is easy to change. As a bonus, I am also able to load CD's of old photographs and copy these to external hard drive. This is a great little product, it does everything it is designed to and more! It is very well priced, it does what I wanted it to do and more. I am really happy to be able to future proof old memories.

Great piece of equipment
I bought this to replace an old DVD Burner / Writer / Player that wouldn’t work with my new laptop. This one is fantastic! Plug it in and it works straight away. My laptop runs Windows 11 and it worked no bother. I found files transferred onto a DVD both quickly and quietly. Glad I opted for this one.

Decent brand name, decent drive, decent price
I realised that I didn't have any way of reading optical media any more - my past two laptops haven't had a DVD drive and my new work PC hasn't got one either. In the past I've got cheap no-name Chinese drives but you get what you pay for - two of them have had obviously used drives inside, with manufacturing dates over 10 years old, and have failed spectacularly noisily. So, it was time to go a bit more upmarket. This one is made by a household name (well, two of them) so both the drive unit and the case/electronics have a decent heritage. And, rather than a drive with April 2008 on the sticker, this one has a six month old manufacturing date. The only weird thing is having something brand new with a USB Mini connector on - in 2023! - but this device is tried and tested, and USB Mini connectors are much more robust than USB Micro. USB C would be nice, given the fact that it's where we're going, but I can accept the Mini connector. Plugged into my Windows 11 laptop and recognised straight away. I've not looked at the disc of software that came with it because I use VLC for everything on all devices, so why change?

More black with grey stripes than silver ... works fine
Very light weight. Tested with Macbook M4 Air on OS 26.3 and it was plug and play with both DVDs and CDs and an adapter on each end of the Anker USB-A to Micro cable I already had as I want to use this as part of my travel kit. An update to USB-C would be welcome modernisation. So entirely meets expectations, except that 'silver' is more like ... grey stripes on black, for which -1*. This will not match your Mac. Full marks for form factor and performance as tested.

I like the LG Portable Slim DVD-RW Burner, it is sleek looking, smooth operation, the only downside if you can call that is it took weeks to receive it if you want to have free delivery, otherwise, it's good value.
