This straw smells AMAZING, and is just rough cut enough to be easily spread even amongst new sprouts, while being long enough to hold itself against blowing away in a wind. I've purchased this many times now for my yard projects, and having seen what it looks like a year later, I can confidently say that it will continue to be my go-to! It has broken down nicely and begun providing nutrients for the sow bugs and plant roots. A saw a few sprouts from an errant seed or two, but they were few and far between. It did a great job keeping weeds away from my garden beds too! For how far each bag spreads, the value is worth every penny! It also didn't aggravate my hay allergy as bad as some others did while I worked with it. That alone was a godsend. It also worked extremely well in my compost bins and barrels. I was originally using a mix of sawdust from woodwork and leaf litter as the dry, but this works much better at providing pockets of breathability to the microbes. My finished compost this year has been popping plants up faster than any other!

I have used cedar mulch but have battled with infestations of pill bugs and ants, so I wanted to try something different, and GardenStraw delivered! It is very lightweight and I like that it protects the ground, but lets it breathe. Using a thin layer, you can even plant seeds underneath and watch them grow through the straw. I love using this on my strawberry towers and grow bags, but I have also spread it throughout my garden. Please note that although it has been cleaned, it will have seeds in it, and you're likely to be growing wheat with your crops. It's not a big deal because it's like the gift that keeps giving! I cut the wheat near the root and the cuttings serve as fresh mulch. Yes, it will be displaced a little with heavy rains and you might need to reapply in some places, but all in all, I've had this for a few months now and it's been a breeze to mulch and my plants seem healthier. It does retain moisture well and it's easy to spread. I can haul the whole bale without breaking a sweat, which was super important to me.

I love this product. It is clean and light. It does it's job of holding moisture and keeps the mosquitoes from hanging around the garden bed. One of the cons is that it has quite a few grass seeds, but my dog loves the fresh tender blades of grass.

I have never had weeds in my raised garden beds until I use this straw. While it looks nice and it does its job, I have had to weed my 10 beds, daily. I even put straw in an empty bed and left it there and now that bed is full of weeds.

This straw is cut shorter so the wind doesn't blow it away. I did have a few seeds the first year but it was not a big deal. This straw works like magic for weed suppression and helping to keep soil moist and cool in my HOT California climate. I remove the straw in the spring while I amend and replant my garden. Then, re-spread the used straw when seedlings come up. This straw is good for 2 years. Then, it needs to be replaced. Overall, a very good value!

First time use. Thought straw would not have seeds in it but there’s green shoots popping up everywhere in my garden and containers now! Instead of suppressing weeds, it brought them and I paid $ for them ☹️😱🦨
